In 1936, he moved his classes to Les Beaux. After marrying the American Doris Hodgkins, he moved permanently to the United States in 1942, maintaining residences in San Francisco and in his wife's home town, Hancock, Maine. It was in this rural community that he and Doris established what was first known as L'École Monteux, later to be known as the Domaine School, and finally, the Pierre Monteux School. After Monteux's death, Maestro Charles Bruck took over leadership of the school.
